Parish Guideline on Sacraments


Office Hours:
The Parish Office is open Tuesday – Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The office is closed on all holy days of obligation and most civil holidays. The phone number is 504-944-0166 and fax number is 504-948-9555. All Sacramental ministers and ministry heads may be reached by contacting the parish office at the number listed.

 

Sacrament of Penance (Confession):
Saturdays from 3:15 pm – 3:45 pm in the church, or by appointment made with the parish office.

 

Baptism (Infant to Six Years Old):
Parents must be registered contributing members of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church or another Catholic parish for at least six months. Parents and Godparents are required to attend a Baptismal Prep Class prior to baptism. Call the Parish Office for more information and to request a registration form, or see Deacon Brian Gabriel. If your child is seven years old or older, see Ms. Diane Dooley to enroll in RCIC – Rite of Christian Initiation for Children.

 

Holy Matrimony (Marriage):
The rules of the Diocese require at least a 6 month marriage preparation period prior to a wedding. Contact the Parish office before making any arrangements to receive complete instructions and additional information.

 

Funerals:
Please contact the Parish Office before finalizing any arrangements with a funeral home.

 

Sick Visits: Please contact the Parish Office if one of our parishioners is hospitalized or homebound and wishes to receive communion or see Deacon Uriel Durr or Mrs. Emma Sampson.

 

CCD – School of Religion: Classes meet on Sundays during the school year for those students in grades K-12 that are attending public or non-parochial schools. Registration is held mid to late Summer each year. Please monitor the Parish bulletin for details. CCD is open to registered contributing parishioners. Sacramental records are required to register for class.

 

Confirmation:
High School students in the eleventh grade are eligible to participate in the Sacrament of Confirmation after completing a two-year preparation process. The Sacrament is open to registered contributing members of OLSS for at least six months. Preparation classes are held as a component of the CCD program. First Communion:
Students in the second grade that have been baptized are eligible to receive the Sacrament after completing a one-year preparation process. The Sacrament is open to registered contributing members of OLSS for at least six months. Preparation classes are held as a component of the CCD program. See Ms. Dooley for more information or contact the Parish Office.

 

RCIA/RCIC – Rite of Christian Initiation Adults/Children:
Open to those adults, and children- seven years old and above that have not baptized, who are seeking to join the Catholic church. Classes meet on Sundays during the school year. These individuals will receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism-Confirmation-Communion) at the Easter Vigil Mass the following Spring.
